Regulations Film Competition 2010
24th International Children's Film, Television and New Media Festival, Amsterdam, 20 to 29 October 2010
- Date and Venue
The 24th International Children's Film, Television and New Media Festival Cinekid will take place from 20 to 29 October 2010 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
- Organisation
Cinekid is an independent festival organized by the Cinekid Foundation and is member of the International Centre of Films for Children and Young People (CIFEJ) Montreal and the European Children's Film Association (ECFA).
- Goal
The festival aims at giving a survey of the best new international children's films, -television, -new and crossing media productions and wants to promote quality in children's and youth media. This is realised by means of competition, discussion and collaboration. Economical traffic and cultural exchange is promoted by programme- and co-production markets.
- Programme
The festival programme consists of the following sections:
- International feature films for children and young people, 4-14 years (competition)
- Recent Dutch children's and youth films (features and shorts)
- A panorama programme
- International children's and youth documentaries
- TV-productions (national)
- New Media productions
- Film Competition
The film competition program is limited to 15 feature films. International films for Children and Youth films produced in 2009 / 2010 can be selected for the competition programme, provided that the film has not been released in the Netherlands.
New Dutch produced films can be selected, provided that the film has not been released in the Netherlands before the starting date of the national autumn holiday 2010.
- Prizes
Two prizes are being awarded:
- Cinekid Lion Jury Award
The film competition consists of 15 films. In order to be selected, films must have been produced in 2009/2010, and not as yet released in the Netherlands. New Dutch films can be selected provided that they will not be released before the first day of the festival. An international jury decides which film wins the Cinekid Lion Jury Award and presents it, with a prize of € 15,000, to the film's director.
- Cinekid Lion Audience Award
The Cinekid Lion Audience Award, also with a prize of € 15,000, is awarded by the children's audience attending the Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam. In order to qualify, films must have been produced in 2009/2010, and be selected for the Competition, Panorama or Dutch competition. Special screenings and theme programmes do not qualify. The Cinekid Lion Audience Award is presented to the director of the winning film.
- Jury
The Cinekid Award will be presented by an international jury of experts.
- Features and Shorts
Productions of 60 minutes or longer are considered features. Productions of less that 60 minutes are considered shorts.
Features can be selected for all programmes. Short films can only be selected for occasional special programmes and for the ScreeningClub Market.
- Screening Format
For screening purposes 35mm film is standard. The films can will be screened in 35 mm and in some cases in Beta SP or Digibeta. To be decided by Cinekid.
- Festival Screenings
Films selected for competition will normally be screened 4 times, depending on the number of chairs in the theatre. We will limit ourselves to a maximum of 1000 chairs per film.
- Conditions of Entry
The entry forms are to be submitted via the website before 1 July 2010 and are to be accompanied by:
- a preview DVD
- dialogue list
- high quality stills of the film (at least 300 DPI)
- an electronic press kit (EPK with fragments of the film) and other publicity materials like a poster
- a biography, filmography and photo of the director (at least 300 DPI)
All films must be subtitled in English. The films will be presented -if necessary - with a Dutch voice over. To make a Dutch translation a videotape(DVD or VHS with timecode) and dialogue list or script is required.
In some cases a non-subtitled 35mm copy will be accepted, to be decided by Cinekid.
Cinekid is free to unlimitedly use the publicity materials (fragments, photo's) for promotional reasons.
- ScreeningClub
All films of the film competition programme will also been shown in Cinekid International's ScreeningClub. Please send us two (2) DVD's for the ScreeningClub. Please notice that they will not be returned unless requested.
- School screenings
In the week preceding or after the festival Cinekid organises school screenings. In 2010 these screenings will take place October 12 through October 16. Prints of selected films for the school screenings have to arrive at least one week earlier.
- Film transport
The selected films should reach the festival before October 4th 2010. The films sent in 35 mm format (or other accepted formats) are to remain at the festival until the festival is finished.
The organizers will take utmost care for safe handling and will insure the prints against loss or damage from the moment of their receipt onwards. For the period in which the films are in the care of the festival, they are fully insured for their print value.
Unless specified otherwise, expenses relating to the transport of films and promotion materials to Cinekid will be covered by the participant. Cinekid pays for the cost of returning the film prints.
The participant will be contacted by Cinekid's print coordinator a few months before the festival starts, though at the latest before September 1st.
- The submission of an entry implies acceptance of these regulations.
