Regulations for the Cinekid New Media Awards 2010

  1. Date and Venue
    The 24th International Children's Film, Television and New Media Festival Cinekid will take place from 20 to 29 October 2010 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

  2. Organisation
    Cinekid is an independent festival organized by the Cinekid Foundation.

  3. Goal
    The festival aims at giving a survey of the best new international children's films, television, new media and cross-media productions and wants to promote quality in children's and youth media. This is realised by means of competition, discussion and collaboration. Economical traffic and cultural exchange is promoted by programme- and co-production markets.

  4. Programme
    The festival programme consists of the following sections: Cinekid New Media Awards:
    • International feature films for children and young people, 4-14 years
    • Recent Dutch children's and youth films (features and shorts)
    • A panorama programme
    • International children's and youth documentaries
    • TV-productions (national)
    • New media productions (competition)
    • New media workshops

  5. New Media Competition
    New media productions for children and youth and published in the Netherlands or Flanders (Vlaanderen) between July 1st 2009 and 9th July 2010 are eligible for participation. New media productions include videogames, digital tools, cross-media productions and interactive installations. Productions must be available / accessible to its target audience. Productions should be in Dutch, exceptions to this can be made in some cases where a foreign language is used in an way which is accessible and suitable to the target audience.

    Marketing products, advertising items and productions intended solely for education within the (national) curriculum, such as language and counting tools and science-related learning accessories, are not eligible for participation.

  6. Prizes
    Two prizes are being awarded:
    • Cinekid New Media Jury Award
      From all entries to the Cinekid New Media competition the jury makes a selection of a maximum of 12 productions. From these 12 productions the jury decides which production wins the Cinekid New Media Jury Award and presents it, with a prize of € 7,500, to the production's commissioning party.

    • Cinekid New Media Audience Award
      The Cinekid New Media Audience Award, is awarded by the children's audience attending the Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam. The children's audience can cast their vote on all productions which are included in the Cinekid Medialab's exhibition. The Cinekid Medialab exhibition includes the Cinekid New Media Award Jury selection with the exception of productions where it is not possible to experience the basis for selection in the context of the Cinekid Medialab or where this is not possible due to financial or production reasons. Workshops and special programme elements do not take part in the competition. The Cinekid New Media Audience Award is presented to the production's commissioning party.

  7. Jury
    The professional jury, comprising of five professionals from the (new) media world, applies high quality selection criteria to: design, artwork, age relevance and adequacy, interaction, sound, navigation and storyline(s).

  8. Festival Presentation
    New media productions selected for competition will normally be presented in the Cinekid Medialab during the course of the festival.

  9. Conditions of Entry
    The entry forms are to be submitted via the website before 9 July 2010 and are to be accompanied by:
    • High quality images of tyher production (at least 300 dpi) and
    • 6 copies of the production/ project in its entirety, or otherwise in consultation / agreement or
    • a URL on which the production is available (with, if necessary, 6 sets of log-in data) or
    • he possibility of visiting and experiencing the installation/ project

    Cinekid is free to unlimitedly use the publicity materials (fragments, photo's) for promotional reasons.

The submission of an entry implies acceptance of these regulations.
